The final tournament of the season for Zone 6 golf took place at Eaglecrest Golf Club, Aug. 9.

Under sunny skies, 96 players participated in the 4-Ball partner event. Winners were determined by calculating the total of the better net score on each hole. The winning low net team of May Mitchell and Raelene Robertson from Crown Isle mastered their way around the course and posted a score of 60, with Marilyn Roney and Leah Miltenberger of Qualicum Beach Memorial second by countback. In third position from Nanaimo were Elaine Murray and Barb Thompson with 62.

In the Gross division it was Blanka Dunville and Sharon Whitehead from Fairwinds with score of 75, followed by last year’s gross winners Josee Deslauriers and Sally Dobler from Morningstar with 76. Not far behind were Mary Jane Kerr and Julia Free from Storey Creek posting a 79. Eaglecrest Golf Club provided a great venue for this event with the course in fine shape and a delicious meal provided by new chef, John Filipchuk.

The tournament also honoured 21 players who had participated in ten or more tournaments since 2016.

Zone 6 encompasses the Mid to North Vancouver Island from Duncan to Port Hardy, which includes Port Alberni and Powell River, and is composed of 22 diverse and challenging golf courses. Any ladies who are members of these courses are eligible to participate in the Zone 6 tournaments. There are five throughout the season — Amateur/Senior, the Champion of Champions, the Club Team Championship, the Net, and the 4-Ball.
