Youth soccer registration begins early

Registration for the 2018 Bulkley Valley Youth Soccer season is open from Feb. 15 to March 22.

With over 800 children needing to be registered into 45 teams and six leagues, and the need to find and provide training for the 130-plus coaches and referees, youth soccer registration is happening earlier this year.

Prompt registration allows the volunteer-run Bulkley Valley Soccer Society enough time to complete these necessary steps before the playing season can begin.

The BVSS recently started the winter/spring leg of its popular academy program with sessions Friday night at the Ebenezer School. Run by BVSS’s head coach Dan Imhof, the academy offers young soccer players a chance develop their skills and play small sided games. With sessions during all seasons, the academy has been running for more than a year and has proven to be a popular addition to the BVSS outdoor leagues in May and June.

Information on future soccer programs, including registration for outdoor soccer, is available on the BVSS website bvsoccer.ca.

Men’s drop-in soccer expands

Men’s drop-in soccer, forced last fall to leave its long-term home at Smithers Secondary School with the recent introduction of new formal and informal gym policies, found a new home at the Ebenezer School.

Play at Ebenezer started in September and the intense action and friendly rivalries have proven so popular that from now until May it has expanded to two evenings a week. Turnout is so popular that unfortunately men’s drop-in is not accepting new players but prospective soccer players should keep an eye out for registration for the outdoor adult soccer leagues in April.
