Charlie Curiston hit a walk-off line drive base hit to right field to bring home the winning run for the SOMBA midget No.1 baseball team at a spring tournament held last weekend.

The Penticton team finished with a record of four wins and one loss at the Central Okanagan Minor Baseball Association tournament. Cohyn Cutler came across the plate as the winning run in the final to defeat the home team COMBA by a score of 11-10.

“It was team work ethic with positive attitudes that made it possible,” said coach Allen Wilson about winning the championship.

The midgets defeated the Vancouver Reds 9-8 to earn their trip to the championship game with a walkout steal at home.

The coaches said Kody Firlotte had an outstanding weekend pitching, playing the field and catching two full games. He was injured at a collision at home in the championship game, but had showed a lot of heart over the weekend tournament.

“The whole team worked hard and persevered despite being down at several times in each game. The coaches were really proud of how classy and positive they were throughout the tournament. This really was a team win and everyone contributed,” said Matt Nelson, SOMBA midget director.
