Many Quesnel residents played an integral part in making the 2019 B.C. Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships a success earlier this year, and now, those devoted volunteers have a chance to volunteer on an even bigger stage.
Volunteer applications are now being accepted for the 2020 World Women’s Curling Championship, which is scheduled for March 14-22 at the CN Centre in Prince George.
“Being part of a world championship behind the scenes is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so it’s recommended that you get involved quickly,” states a press release from the organizers. “A variety of volunteer roles are available for setup and takedown, working in the stands during games and behind the scenes at various checkpoints. Volunteers are also needed for a variety of media roles and assisting in keeping lounges stocked with refreshments and food.”
The world-famous Patch, located just a short indoor walk away from the main CN Centre arena, will also be in full swing during the event. The party zone will be electrifying with live music and more. Volunteers make it all possible by bartending, bussing, assisting patrons with the cashless banking system and enjoying the camaraderie of the Patch.
All volunteers pay a $100 rewards fee, which includes an official volunteer uniform and handbook, limited-edition volunteer pin, access to the venue when not on shift (space permitting), access to the Patch with live entertainment, and an invitation to the volunteer appreciation party.
The 2020 World Women’s Curling Championship will feature 13 teams, including Team Canada — the winner of the 2020 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Moose Jaw, Sask.
