It was a game where the Tri-Port Peewee Wild found themselves up 2-1 against the visiting Campbell River Hurricanes, one of the top teams in their division, after two periods of play.

The game was held on Sunday at the Don Cruickshank Memorial Arena in Port Hardy, and it was a ‘wild’ one right from the first whistle.

The Hurricanes would strike first at 14:41 with a goal from Kai Hyatt, but the Wild’s Adysen Verbrugge would return the favour with just 1:57 left in the first period, firing the puck top shelf off a breakaway to tie it back up 1-1.

After a back and forth second period filled with chances, the Wild’s Emma Walkus jammed the puck in the net at 3:37 during a scramble to give the Wild a 2-1 lead going into the third.

The Hurricanes, however, refused to lay down and die, and they came back with a vengeance, scoring five unanswered goals courtesy of Mackinley Whalen (x2), Ashley Lontayo, and Hyatt (x2), to give them a hard fought 6-2 win.

The Wild will be back in action at home on March 3 in Port Hardy.
