Thirty-two Terrace soccer players got a chance to meet Vancouver Whitecaps FC goalkeeper Sean Melvin Aug. 23 during the final days of the summer soccer camp.

Melvin answered questions about being a professional soccer player and watched as the campers, aged 7-15, played two round-robin tournaments in the World Cup games at Christie Park. He then signed autographs and t-shirts at the end.

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC Skills Camp ran from Aug. 20-24 for its second year in Terrace. Coached by Eric Horsburgh, he said the young soccer players really enjoyed getting a chance to show off their skills and learn more about the game.

“It went well, the kids had fun. We did a lot of promotions for our programs in the fall during the camp, and a lot of the kids are now interested in signing up,” Horsburgh said. “One of the kids also won a signed Alphonso Davies shirt, she was pretty excited about that.”
