The men’s and women’s doubles finals were both decided in straight sets, but they were decidedly different matches as the Arrowsmith Tennis Club held its annual Oceanside Open Saturday at Springwood Park in Parksville.

Andrew Stimpson of Spider Lake and Greg Cooke of Qualicum Beach won the men’s title with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Parksville’s Loren Guenette and Ernie Pallot of French Creek.

The women’s doubles went to Jill Trelawney of Parksville and Ada Sarsiat of Qualicum Beach, who were pushed to the limit in a 6-4, 7-6 win over Donna McKee and Tanya Bruk of Nanaimo.

“It was a really close match,” said Sarsiat.

The one-day tournament drew eight men’s and five women’s teams, after one withdrawal. Prizes included bottles of wine and six-packs of beer.

Arrowsmith Tennis Club will return to the Springwood Park courts this Saturday for its second “friendly” round-robin doubles tourney, starting at 9:30 a.m.
