TRU wins exhibition opener

The host Thompson Rivers University WolfPack beat the visiting Capilano Univeristy Blues of North Vancouver 3-2 in its first pre-season match of the 2019 women's soccer season.

The host Thompson Rivers University WolfPack beat the visiting Capilano Univeristy Blues of North Vancouver 3-2 in its first pre-season match of the 2019 women’s soccer season.

Danielle Robertson, a third-year player from Courtenay, shared goaltending duties with second-year keeper Marissa Young of Calgary.

Comox Valley midfielder Camryn Curts is also a starter on the women’s team.

TRU led 2-1 after the first half. Chantal Gammie of Smithers paced the WolfPack with a pair of markers. Emily Mann of Kamloops also scored.

Head coach Mark Pennington said it was a good start and a good ‘base’ to work on as the squad looks to improve.

“We will have lots of video to build from,” he said.

TRU plays in the Canada West Pacific Division of USports while the Blues compete in the PACWEST collegiate league.

Thompson Rivers’ next0 exhibition match is Aug. 15.
