Towhees tune-up on mainland

GP Vanier's senior boys basketball team played a pair of weekend road games in a tune-up before their final two league games this week, followed by playoffs.

Friday in Vancouver, the team faced Notre Dame, where coach Larry Street started his high school coaching career 41 years ago. Levi Timmermans scored 40 points and 12 rebounds. Kyle Piercy chipped in with eight assists. The Towhees overcame a 10-point deficit in the fourth to go ahead by one. Then the game was tied, but ND hit a three from the corner to win the game 67-64.

Vanier beat the West Vancouver Highlanders 66-64 on Saturday.

Bentley Barth and Dawson Kipp each scored six points and played stellar defence. Piercy had 10 points, four steals and four assists. Riley Meyerhoff had 12 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. Timmermans had 30 points and 10 rebounds. He also was a factor in the key with seven blocked shots.

Vanier played in Port Alberni Tuesday. Friday at home, the Towhees host Barsby of Nanaimo at 7:30 p.m. in the last home game of the year. It will also be Senior Night, recognizing the team’s seven graduating players.
