Tigers’ season stalled

Vernon Tigers searching for players for Thompson Okanagan Senior Lacrosse League season.

The Thompson Okanagan Senior Lacrosse League is barely underway and the Vernon Tigers are floundering.

Short on manpower, the Cats were forced to cancel their tilt with the Armstrong Shamrocks tonight at Nor-Val Sports Centre.

“The work situation in Vernon hasn’t helped us,” said Tigers’ head coach Lawrie Skolrood. “We’ve got guys leaving to work up north. We had three more leave this week.”

If the situation doesn’t improve soon, Skolrood says the Tigers’ season might be in jeopardy. They have used Junior B call-ups from the Vernon Re/Max Tigers to fill their ranks in the past, but he says that isn’t a permanent solution.

“Call-ups are not a way to go around this. You have to have senior players to have a senior league.”

If anyone is interested in taking up the sport, the Tigers will listen.

“Anyone who has any kind of athletic ability, we will train them up and see what we can do,” said Skolrood.

The Tigers practice 8:30-10 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays at the Creekside Park box. After next week, practices will be at Wesbild Centre.

Contact Skolrood at (250) 550-5358.
