Summerland golfers compete in memorial tournament

Event on June 4 in memory of Dorothy Olive Franklin who gave many years to ladies golf

Summerland Ladies Club

On Tuesday, June 4, the Summerland Golf and Country Ladies Club competed in the Dorothy Franklin Memorial Tournament held to commemorate Dorothy Olive Franklin who gave many years to ladies golf both at the provincial and national level.

Proceeds are used to help send promising junior girls to go to out of province or international tournaments.

This is low gross/low net competition is an annual event and this year the winner for Summerland is Carol Rosenthal.

First flight: First low gross Carol Rosenthal, 84; second low gross Linda Brussee, 90; first low net Lil Smith, 75; second low net Val Eibner, 77.

Second flight: First low gross Janis Goll, 101; second low gross Barb Oleschuk, 108; first low net Kathy Larkin, 76; second low net Norma Chambers, 77.

Summerland Senior Men

On June 6, the Summerland Senior Men’s Club played a one gross, three net scores event.

Greg Flook was the low gross winner while Alf Vaagen led the field with a net of 67.

There were two deuces, Greg Flook and Ken Blower.

First flight: First low gross Greg Flook, 80; first low net Alf Vaagen, 67; second low net Dennis Glasscock, 71; third low net Dwain Sandrelli, 73.

Second flight: First low gross Andy Webster, 87; first low net Jeff Clarke, 71, ; second low net Graham Baggaley, 75 cb; third low net Jerry Mckenna, 75.

First flight: First low gross Sandy McDowell, 82; first low net Dave Cain, 71; second low net Terry Steinke, 76 cb; third low net Al Thomas, 76.
