Southpaw stops Washington’s Weston

Local boxer Shalynn Holdsworth is three for three in recent bouts, stopping Rockie Weston in a three-round TKO last weekend.

Chilliwack boxer Shalynn Holdsworth demolished American fighter Rockie Weston in a Saturday bout in Olympia, Washington. Competing at the South Sound Championships, Holdsworth’s opponent weighed in seven pounds heavier and a full year older.

In a full-fledged fight, Holdsworth started strong, landing several lefts to Weston’s head.

Weston had no answer for Holdsworth’s southpaw stance.

The Thurston County native was staggered in the first and second rounds and stopped in the third.

After two damaging lefts, the referee stepped in to end the fight.

Holdsworth won the novice boxer award at tournament and has now gone three for three in bouts since mid-March.

Two of her wins have come by TKO.

Holdsworth is starting to get noticed by American coaches.
