The North Zone Royals were in tournament action last weekend in Kelowna and brought home a hard-fought silver medal, falling to the Vernon Vipers in the final game.
The Royals held their own for the majority of the contest, despite a short and banged up bench, leading 3-2 as they entered the third period. The Royals would be called for over 20 penalty minutes in the last 16 minutes, while Vernon received none.
The Vipers would score four times with the man advantage and defeat the exhausted Royals 6-3.
On their way to the game against Vernon, The Royals won their pool with a 5-0 victory over the Saanich Braves, and tied with the Central Zone Rockets and Calgary Royals, followed by a 10-4 victory over Westside in the semis.
The Royals will take the ice again after a Christmas break, against the Thompson Zone team at Hucul pond at 5 p.m. on Jan. 7.
