Sicamous ready to host U19C Girls Provincial Softball Championship

Sicamous Angels compete for the provincial title at home

After winning the Okanagan U19 Girls Championship in mid June, the local Sicamous Angels have been honing their softball skills in preparation for the Provincial Championship being held at Finlayson Park in Sicamous, July 13 to 15.

Teams from Victoria, Parksville, Sooke, Langford, Surrey, North Vancouver, Langley, Chilliwack, Kamloops, Kelowna, Summerland and the host Sicamous team will play a four-game round robin on Friday, July 13 and Saturday, July 14.

The top eight teams after the round robin will play off for provincial supremacy.

The playoff rounds start at 4:30 p.m. Saturday and continue on Sunday until a winner is crowned.

The Gold-medal game is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday, July 15 on diamond three in Finlayson Park.

The Angels play their first game on Friday at noon and again at 4 p.m. with both games on diamond three.

Sicamous plays at 8 a.m. and noon on Saturday.

The opening ceremony will be at 6 p.m. on Friday night, with a skills competition immediately after.

Teams will enjoy a pancake breakfast on Saturday morning, courtesy of the Enderby and Sicamous Lions Clubs.

There is no entry charge and the Eagle Valley 4-H Club will be running the concession.

All games start at 8 a.m. each day in Finlayson Park.

“Come down and cheer on the home team,” said Jake DeWitt the Angels’ coach.
