First-year CSSHL team captures Varsity Division championship

In dramatic fashion, Shawnigan Lake School capped off their successful inaugural Canadian Sport School Hockey League season with a 4-3 shootout victory over the Compete Hockey Academy on Friday afternoon, capturing the 2015 CSSHL Varsity Division Championship.

After completing the regular season with an unblemished 24-0-0 record, Shawnigan entered the post-season as the favourites, but they had to earn it once they got there. A 3-2 shootout win over the Banff Hockey Academy in the semifinals on Thursday setup the championship game against Compete, where defenceman Gavin Yee scored once in regulation and then the shootout winner to propel his squad to victory.

Liam Kennedy scored the other two goals for Shawnigan, while Cael Halvorsen picked up the win in goal, making 30 saves.

Yurii Potsiluienko led the charge for Compete, scoring once and setting up one more, while Dmytro Golovko and Yehor Vinnytiski each added a single.
