The Armstrong Shamrocks have all but guaranteed themselves the third seed heading into the Thompson Okanagan Junior Lacrosse League playoffs.
The Rocks improved to 4-7-3 after manhandling the shortbenched South Okanagan Flames 11-3 Friday night at Nor-Val Sports Centre. The win puts them two points clear of the fourth-place Kamloops Venom (4-10-1).
Armstrong, who also has a hefty lead in goal differential (tiebreaker) over the Venom, visited the Vernon Tigers Saturday night at Kal Tire Place.
The regular season wraps up Thursday (7:30) at Nor-Val when the Rocks host the Kelowna Raiders, who are league co-leaders with Vernon at 11-3-1.
Stephen Ringdal paced the Armstrong offence Friday night with three goals and an assist, helping his team race out to a 4-1 first-period lead.
Leading 7-2 after 40 minutes, the Rocks put the game away with four more third-period snipes. Adding to the attack were Keith Minnis, with 2+2, Adam New and Cole Williamson, each with 2+1, Drew Hassard, with 1+2, and Cam Nelson, with a single.
Chris Pond and the Thompson boys, Tanner and Levi, answered with singles for the Flames, who struggled with just 12 runners.
Cole McFarlane made 19 saves for the win, while Flames’ keeper Brad Stel had 46 stops.
The teams combined for 121 penalty minutes, including two fights. The Flames are 3-10-2.
