Selkirks making waves in pool

In just three meets this season, the Selkirks Swim Club has already broken 45 club records

In just three meets this season, the Selkirks Swim Club has already broken 45 club records.

At the meets in Penticton, Kelowna and Vernon, the Selkirks also produced some of the top five times in Canada for age-group swimmers.

Last season the club swimmers broke more than 700 club records, with nearly every record in the book getting broken.

So far the club has won more than 54 golds, 40 silver and 35 bronze medals in its first three meets.

A total of 16 different Selkirks members have produced winning performances.

The club is now getting ready for its next scheduled swim meet, which will be in West Kelowna in December.

This year, the club has been awarded two major meets.

The first Regional A Championships will be held in Salmon Arm in February, bringing in more than 200 swimmers and parents over the weekend.

“For the new swimmers in the club this will be a great event and a highlight of the winter season,” said Selkirks coach Barry Healey. The club was awarded the 2017 event based on the impressive bronze medal in the women’s team event in the Open Water Age Group Nationals last summer.

The event will be held at Canoe Beach on July 10, and will include 1,500-metre, 3-kilometre and 5-km distances.
