Mission wrestler shuts out all opposition at Abbotsford event

Mission’s Victoria Seal dominated again on the mat on Saturday.

The Grade 11 Mission Secondary student traveled across the Fraser River to compete at the 2018 Miri Piri Wrestling Championship event in Abbotsford and took home the top spot in the girls (Grades 8 to 12) 57 kilogram division.

Seal shutout all four opponents she faced en route to the division title.

She opened with a 10-0 win over Samantha Nobbs from Langley’s Yorkson Creek and then defeated Yorkson Creek’s Felicity Allan 12-0. Seal then blanked Abigail Titian from Uclulet Secondary School 12-0 and earned the top spot with a 10-0 win over Simran Khattra from Surrey’s Khalsa Wrestling Club.

Next up for Seal is the Western Canada Age Class Wrestling Championships, which occur today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) at UFV’s Envision Athletic Centre.

Victoria’s older sister Alexia Seal also hits the mat at UFV for the Cascades Classic event on Sunday.

Seal will compete on the Simon Fraser University Clan team at the event, which kicks off at 9 a.m.

Alexia is fresh off a 12-11 win over Kateri Rowell of Grays Harbour College on Jan. 19. Alexia and the Clan defeated the Aberdeen-based school 24-23 at the event.
