Rugby Canada CEO stepping down

Langford operations minimally affected by departure

Graham Brown has parted ways with Rugby Canada after 13 years with the organization.

Brown had offices at Rugby Canada’s Ontario headquarters as well as the organization’s facility on Glen Lake Road in Langford.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Rugby Canada, “ Brown said in a statement on Aug. 25. “While I look forward to other challenges in amateur sport, the rugby community will always be able to count on my support. “

Brown was in Langford on July 31 when the federal government and City of Langford announced funding to build a high-performance training centre this fall. The 19,000 square-foot facility was expected to break ground by the end of the year. The feds are kicking in $3 million, Langford has committed $2.5 million and Rugby Canada will pitch in with an initial $900,000.

Brown isn’t leaving right away, as Canada’s national men’s team prepares for the Rugby World Cup, which starts Sept. 18. The CEO plans to stay on for the competition, which wraps up at Twickenham Stadium in London, England on Oct. 31.

Rugby Canada said a successor to Brown will be announced soon.
