Her first collegiate win, coming against a power-packed field, was enough to earn Oklahoma Christian golfer Abigail Rigsby recognition Wednesday as the Heartland Conference player of the week.

Rigsby, a sophomore from Courtenay, won the Midwestern State Invitational at Wichita Falls Country Club in Wichita Falls, Texas, by four shots Tuesday. She shot rounds of 73 and 76 on the par-72, 5,843-yard course.

Her win was the 15th individual title by an OC golfer in the program’s seven-season history, but the first since Kate Goodwin won the Oklahoma Intercollegiate at Fort Sill Golf Course in 2016.

In 20 career events, Rigsby has 11 top-10 finishes. Her win gives her four top-five finishes this season, including a runner-up showing last week at the Diffie Ford-Lincoln Invitational at Kickingbird Golf Course in Edmond, Okla.

Rigsby is the first OC golfer to win the Heartland’s weekly honour during the 2017-18 academic year.
