Peewee Titans off to provincial football final

White Rock-South Surrey squad set to play Abbotsford in championship game after semifinal win over Victoria.

The White Rock-South Surrey Titans’ peewee football squad will take a shot at a provincial title this weekend, after a win last week in semifinals.

On Sunday at a rain-soaked South Surrey Athletic Park, the Titans edged the previously undefeated Victoria Renegades 8-0 to punch their ticket to this weekend’s title game against Abbotsford. The game is set for 10 a.m. Sunday at Langley’s McLeod Park.

The only touchdown came early in the second quarter, when – after Jacob Knowles and Nico Scoates took turns carrying the ball deep into Victoria territory – Knowles, on third down, punched the ball across the line on a three-yard run.

Armed with a lead and led by Alexander McCrank, who made several key tackles, White Rock managed to stymie the Renegades offence – which had averaged about 40 points per game this season – and leave the field with the win.

The game was the fourth playoff tilt in a row in which the Titans had held their opponents scoreless in regulation time, according to coach Dave Reiffer.
