This past weekend the PeeWee AA Ladysmith 49ers went undefeated at the Baseball BC Western Qualifiers to win the title of Team BC.

In round robin play they first faced the Vancouver Community Mounties, winning 16-6. On the second day they beat the District Six Saints 18-9 coming back from a 9-5 deficit after six innings. The game went three hours and had to be suspended for darkness, but the delay didn’t slow the boys who shut down the Saints in the bottom of the inning when the game resumed the next morning.

In the final round robin game they beat the hosting Chilliwack Cougars 6-2. Semi-Final play had them head-to-head with second place Abbotsford, winning that game 8 -1. Running high on their undefeated streak, the boys again faced the District Six Saints, trouncing them 10-0 in a very rainy final to capture the provincial title.

The team will now move on to the Western Canadian Championships representing both Ladysmith and the province as Team BC. There they will face the top teams from Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan as well as the host town Strathmore Reds.

Game play starts Friday August 16.
