Turn-Key Control Ogopogos doubled Kelowna RPM Automotive 4-2 in Capri Insurance Okanagan Men’s 45+ Soccer League play Monday in Lake Country.
Jason Beck earned MVP with several key interceptions and great play-making from the back line.
Goals for the ‘Pogos came from Mark Wasylyk, on a one-timer off a set up from Bryan Schenker; Geoff Nice, who tapped in after Wasylyk hustled his way to goal; Schenker, on a solo run; and Duane Dennis on a low shot from 10 yards, set up by Schenker.
At Parkinson Rec Centre in Kelowna, Vernon Bosman Accounting played a strong game and dominated the first half, but fell 2-1 to Mind Smart United.
Winger Kerry Correia went on multiple breakaways but could not find the net and attacker Mark Sladen hit the post. The accountants had more chances to score but all attempts missed the target or were stopped by the Mind Smart keeper. The accountants lacked more luck in the first half as they lost two men due to injuries.
In the second half it was much of the same. Bosman pressing and looking for the opening goal. Finally midfielder Barry MacKay cut in from the left side and took a shot on goal which hit the cross bar and was headed in by Rolf Hirschkorn giving Bosman the lead.
Shortly after that Hirschkorn also got injured leaving the accountants with 10 healthy guys on the field. Mind Smart put some extra effort in it and scored twice in the final 10 minutes. Bosman Man of the Match was tied between MacKay and Mike Grace. Both played in net for a half and both had an outstanding half playing out.
In Vernon, Brandt’s Creek Pub whipped the Okanagan Spring Brewery Camels 8-0 as the humpbacks began the game with eight players, including Akbal Mund filling in as keeper.
Brandt’s Creek led 3-0 before the Camels had a full side of 11 players.
