Norms Autobody claims fourth title in rec hockey league

The 2018 Terrace Adult Hockey League wrapped up their playoffs last week, with Norm’s Autobody defeating Sorochan Wood and Metal in the rec league best-of-three series final.

The final match in that series was action-packed, with Norms battling back from a 3-0 deficit heading into the second period. They rallied together and managed to tie the game by the end, forcing a sudden-death shootout where they claimed the win.

It was the team’s fourth consecutive title in the rec league.

In the Old Timers division finals, the Rio Tinto Ice Hawks squared off against the United Rentals Classics in a single winner-takes-all match. The Ice Hawks lead 3-0 after the first period, and though the Classics scored early in the second, the Ice Hawks answered back with two more goals. The final score was 5-1 and gave the Ice Hawks their second consecutive title for the Old Timers.

Similar to last year, the league wrapped up their season with what is their second annual Charity All-Star game, with proceeds going to “Field of Faith Foundation” this year. The game on March 10 featured rec division champions Norm’s Auto versus an Old Timer all-stars team. The rec champions won 7-2, but league president Travis Lamming said it could have been a lot closer.

“The Old Timers had some bad puck luck and couldn’t finish on a few good scoring chances,” he said in an email. Over $1,000 cash and six boxes of food donations were collected for the Field of Faith Foundation, and Lamming added a big thanks to all fans and supporters.

The charity game trophy was awarded by family members of the late Peter Nisyok. “Peter was Terrace’s most loyal hockey fan…the league wanted to honour his memory,” said Lamming.
