The Mission Cedar Kings kicked off July action in the West Central Senior C Lacrosse League by winning two of three, including a big win inside the Mission Leisure Centre on July 3.
The club hosted the Langley Warriors at the MLC, and buoyed by a seven-goal third period, picked up a 10-3 win.
Mission led 1-0 after one and 3-1 after two before the offensive explosion in the final frame.
Mission’s John Makowsky had a big game, collecting two goals and three assists, while Brenton Graham, Josh Kaiser and Tony Corbin all also scored a pair of goals. Cody Thompson and Gavan Sand added singles. Zach Jones, Tyler Voisey, Thomas Sand, Linden Beskau, Joel Dahlgren, Owen Munro and Travis Laycock all got on the scoresheet.
Goalie Wes Perry backstopped the Cedar Kings to the win.
Some Mission lacrosse talent also suited up for Langley, as former Cedar Kings Brennan Law, Cam Slater, Shane Barnum and Nick Graham lined up against their former teammates. Graham scored two goals for the Warriors in the loss.
Mission returned to action against the Richmond Roadrunners in Port Coquitlam on Saturday, but fell 8-5.
Thompson scored a hat trick, with Graham and Mitch Cavallarin also contributing with goals. The teams traded leads early, but Richmond took over with a four-goal second period and managed to hang on to the lead for the remainder of the game.
The sting of the loss didn’t linger, as the Cedar Kings bounced back with a 10-1 win over Langley in Port Moody on Sunday.
Cavallarin had a monster game with four goals, while Munro added two goals and two assists. Sand (two goals, one assist) and Mat Cruickshank (one goal, two assists) both had three-point nights, while Makowksy scored the club’s other goal. Thompson and Steve Aldcroft collected two assists each, with Jordan Halonen adding a single helper.
Perry earned the win, and helped the Cedar Kings improve to a record of 10-4-1 in WCSCLL regular season action.
Next up for Mission is a date with the Port Moody Express on their home floor on Sunday. That game kicks off at 12:30 p.m. The Cedar Kings then take on the Ladner Pioneers in Delta on Wednesday night.
