The MEI Eagles are aiming to bring Abbotsford rivalries back to the basketball court in a big way on Jan. 30.
A doubleheader scheduled as the MEI Community Basketball All-Play event is hoping to pack the gym, and the school is enticing MEI alumni to root for the Eagles by kicking off a draw to give away a brand new car.
The Eagles senior girls tangle with the Robert Bateman Timberwolves starting at 6 p.m., with the senior boys teams tipping off at 7:30 p.m. inside the MEI secondary school gym.
The MEI Screaming Eagles Marching Band is also set to perform, and comedian Cliff Prang is the host of the event.
Several door prizes will also be available for all fans, including complete detailing for one car, minivan or light truck at Abbotsford’s VIP Mazda; a $100 gift certificate to VIP Mazda; one free oil and filter change for a car, minivan or light truck at VIP Mazda; and a number of other prizes.
The big prize is a 2020 Mazda 3, which will be awarded in January of 2020. The car is being donated by VIP Mazda in Abbotsford and the draw is only open to MEI alumni aged 18 or older. An MEI alumni is anyone who has graduated from or has attended MEI school for one full year.
The car is being used to help draw up community interest in MEI events and to keep MEI alumni involved in the school. Alumni receive one contest entry for attending any of the associated events, with the draw over the next two years, and if an alumni attends three or more events over the next two years they will receive two bonus entries into the draw.
There is no purchase necessary to enter the draw, and current MEI students and staff are not eligible to enter.
