Langley Olympian Hillary Metcalfe was recently bronzed at the B.C. senior swimming championships at the UBC Aquatic Centre.

The 17-year-old Olympians club member won a bronze medal in the 200m IM at the March 12 and 13 meet, moving up a notch after entering the final swim in fourth place.

Hillary also achieved an Olympic Trials qualifying time in the 400m IM, so she will be adding this event to her swims at the Olympic Trials in Toronto.

To go along with her bronze medal, Hillary also made the finals in the 100m breaststroke, 400m IM, 200m breaststroke and 50m breaststroke swims.

In total, five swimmers from the Langley Olympians Swim Club (LOSC) qualified to enter this meet.

Each swimmer needed a minimum of three 15 & over BC AAA times in order to compete at UBC.

The meet was long course (50-metre pool) and more than 200 senior swimmers from across B.C. were in attendance.

Swimmers needed to race hard in the morning in order to make a final swim.

All the Langley swimmers made final swims.

Justin Schramm, 18, won silver in the 400m freestyle. He also made finals in the 200m fly and B finals in the 200m freestyle and 100m fly.

Olympians head Brian Metcalfe was impressed with his team members’ “excellent racing heading into Olympic Trials in April.”

“The Olympic Trials should be exciting  for the young Langley swimmers and we are looking forward to it,” Metcalfe said.

The same weekend, 17 LOSC athletes competed at the Winskill Dolphin LMR Meet in Tsawwassen.

All swimmers attending this meet needed to have a regional qualifying time to attend. The young Olympians performed well and came away with lots of top three placings, new best times, and qualifying times.
