Knights hit football field for opening weekend

The Labour Day weekend saw the start of the 2011 season for the Meadowridge Knights Football Club.

The atom Gold Knights played Abbotsford at Rotary Stadium and won 32-27 in an exciting high scoring game. With 15 seconds to go in the game, Eric Clark, scored his second touchdown of the game for a come from behind win. The atom Blue Knights won their season opener as they defeated the Chilliwack atom Blue Giants 20-6 in Chilliwack. In the trenches, the battle of the big men was won by Knights offensive linemen Tyson Smith and William Ferguson, allowing Ciaran Davies, Evan Vasarhely and Nicho Zolliker to break for big gains.

The peewee Gold Knights lost 26-0 to Abbotsford, while the peewee Blue Knights lost  30-7 to the Chilliwack Blue Giants.

The junior bantam team beat Abbotsford 11-8 in a game that turned out to be a defensive battle. Eric Ross lead the defence while Jake Leberge shook off a first half interception and threw a pass for the game winning touchdown.

The Meadowridge Knights midget team lost 29-0 to the North Surrey Bears. Marc Kalmykov, Elias Eskander and Richard Janke played well on defence for the Knights.
