KIJHL: Dynamiters face Rockets in home and home

The Kimberley Dynamiters look to extend their Eddie Mountain Division lead this weekend as they take on the Golden Rockets.

The Dynamiters (9-1-0-2, 20 points) hold a six-point advantage over the second-place Creston Valley Thunder Cats (7-2-0-0, 14) heading into the weekend’s action. At the other end of the division dwell the Rockets (0-10-0-0, 0) looking to snap a 10-game losing streak to start the season.

The Nitros and Rockets have met twice to this point in the 2015-16 KIJHL campaign, with the Dynamiters extracting a 6-2 victory at the Kimberley Civic Centre (Sept. 12) before grounding the Rockets in Golden by a 5-3 margin on Sept. 27.

Getting the monkey off the back won’t be an easy task for the Rockets, as the Dynamiters ride a six-game winning streaking into Friday’s contest at the Kimberley Civic Centre.

Last weekend, the Nitros pitched back-to-back shutouts, blanking the Thunder Cats 4-0 and the Grand Forks Border Bruins 3-0.

That isn’t good news for a Rockets team that has struggled to find offense, averaging fewer than two goals-for per game, while surrendering more than six goals-against.

The two teams meet Friday night at the Kimberley Civic Centre (7 p.m.) before re-engaging Saturday in Golden (7 p.m.).
