Kelowna teams ruled the 30th annual Baron Insurance Ladies Open Saturday at the Vernon Golf & Country Club.
Linda Aitkens of the Okanagan Club and Karen Packalen of Talking Rock (Chase) won the two-ball tournament with a 73 by retrogression over Kelowna’s Lynda Palahniuk and Melanine Grant.
Kristy Finlayson and Catherine Buchanan of The Harvest in Kelowna also shot 73. Finlayson is a former Vernon junior.
Predator Ridge’s Bernie Mahapatra and Joan McKimm took the low net title at 57 ahead of Marion Radcliffe and Kathy Richdale of Sunset Ranch in Kelowna with 61. Third low net went to Vernon’s Jackie Jones and Gloria Wilms at 62.
This year’s low gross and low net winners received a 150-year commemorative Canadian coin set.
There was a field of 48 teams. The hole-in-one prizes of a car from Bannister Honda and $10,000 from Intact Insurance went unclaimed.
Fourth low gross honours went to Judy Hagen and Bev Kellerman of Predator with 75, followed by Karen Hassard and Marla Taylor of Vernon at 77.
Julie Milligan of Hillview and Sue Beaudry of Vernon were fourth low net at 62 by countback over Joanne Kies and Dianne Nor of Vernon. Maria Smith and Rae Jensen of Vernon were sixth low net at 63.
Closest-to-the-pin prizes were pocketed by Josie Alexander, Lynne Houghton, Jensen and Wendy Robinson.
Deuces were registered by Beth Killaly, Alexander, Robinson, Palahnuik, Packalen, Kathy Richdale and Jensen.
Hillview pro Keith Vandenbrink earned $1,100 for fifth place in the Fairview Mountain Pro-Am in Oliver.
Vandenbrink carded a 1-under 71 Sunday after opening with A 2-over 74. Finlay Young from The Harvest shot a 140 for first. Rob Anderson of Kelowna was second.
“Sunday was overcast with wind blowing from the north,” said Vandenbrink. “I hit 15 greens in regulation and was a little better with the putter (32 putts).”
Vandy played in the 36-hole BCPGA seniors which ended Tuesday at the Salmon Arm Golf & Country Club.
