JOCK TALK: Baseball, lacrosse, racing, golf action on tap

While the Victoria Mariners close their B.C. Premier Baseball League regular season on the road, fellow regional team the Victoria Eagles wind it up this weekend with four home games at Lambrick Park in Saanich.

The Eagles host the Okanagan Athletics in a doubleheader Saturday (July 16), when they play at 1:30 and 4 p.m., and on Sunday, July 17, when first pitches go at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Come cheer on the home team!

Meanwhile, the Junior Premier Eagles end their regular season one field over at Lambrick this weekend, hosting Okanagan on Saturday at 1:30 and 4 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Finally, the rival Junior Eagles and Mariners end with a bang when they face each other at 6 p.m. at Lambrick next Tuesday, July 19.

Still with baseball, after returning from the all-star game, the Victoria HarbourCats host the Bellingham Bells in a three-games series at Royal Athletic Park in Victoria, playing nightly at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, July 20 to 22.

In West Shore cricket this week, Metchosin hosts Oak Bay at the cricket grounds behind the municipal hall this Saturday at noon.

Turning to lacrosse, the WLA Victoria Shamrocks look to extend their two-game win streak when they host the Maple Ridge Burrards at The Q Centre on Friday night (July 15) at 7:45 p.m. Next Friday, the ’Rocks hit the road to face the Burnaby Lakers.

This Saturday, July 16, is Military Appreciation Night at Western Speedway. Check out the action as the Keg Steakhouse & Bar Late Model Drivers Challenge Twin 50s, Galaxy Motors stock cars, dwarf cars and Island Powder Coating IMCA modifieds hit the oval.
