The Ice Hawks narrowly secured first place in the Old Timers rec hockey league in Terrace B.C. this year, defeating the Classics 5-4 in overtime.
Ice Hawks claimed a strong 4-1 lead early in the final match, which was played out on Tuesday, March 7.
But the dogged determination of the Classics brought them roaring back to tie up the game 4-4.
With only a few seconds left on the clock, the Classics managed to net a hail Mary shot from the corner.
That sent the game to a sudden death overtime, and outgoing league president Steve Smyth says the teams nearly played into a shootout.
But with only 11 seconds left in overtime, Mike Homeniuk from the Ice Hawks swatted a rebound through the screen, to earn the Ice Hawks the championship.

Game three will determine who advances to the ‘beverage bowl’ championship, where the rec winners will face off with a select team of Old Timers at 7 p.m.
