Grizzlies hosting basketball’s best

The fields are stacked on the girls and boys sides for the GW Graham AA Invitational Showcase tournament.

GW Graham’s AA Invitational Showcase Tournament started today and continues Friday and Saturday, with senior girls and boys basketball action.

The girls’ draw is a murderers’ row of teams, with seven of the eight entries holding spots in the provincial top-10 rankings.

North Vancouver’s St. Thomas Aqinas Fighting Saints headline the field as the provincial No. 1.

The Duchess Park Condors (Prince George, No. 3), Windsor Dukes (North Vancouver, No. 4), St. Thomas More Knights (Burnaby, No. 5), Wellington Wildcats (Nanaimo, No. 7) and Notre Dame Jugglers (Vancouver, No. 9) are other heavweights.

Vancouver’s Brittania Bruins are a provincial honourable mention.

The home Grizzlies take a back seat to no one, sitting eight in the AA rankings.

The girls’ final is at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in GWG’s main gym.

The boys’ draw is equally loaded with strong squads.

The South Okanagan Hornets (Oliver) are the top ranked team, checking at No. 3.

The Westsyde Wundas (Kamloops, No. 7), DP Todd Trojans (Prince George, No. 8) and hometown GW Graham Grizzlies (10th) are among BC’s best. Vernon’s Clarence Fulton Maroons and Gibsons’ Elphinstone Cougars are both provincial honourable mentions.

The boys’ final is at 8:15 p.m. Saturday in GWG’s main gym and get tourney results in next week’s Progress.
