Grizzlies celebrate heroes, welcome Canuck superfans

Special promotions enhance fans’ hockey experience

Two upcoming events at The Q Centre should have Grizzlies fans growling, in a good kind of way.

Sunday’s B.C. Hockey League matchup against the Coquitlam Express at 2 p.m. will feature a visit from two recognizable faces – or rather, outfits – for any Canucks fans.

The Green Men, Sully and Force, will be in attendance for the pre-game festivities doing photo shoots and autograph sessions with fans, taking donations for the Canadian Cancer Society. They’ll stick around for the game to hopefully heckle the visiting Express for everyone’s entertainment as part of their “Farewell Tour.”

The Express sit in fourth place in the Mainland Division, just behind the reeling Prince George Spruce Kings, who have lost their last three games.

The Grizzlies, on the other hand, are in a three-way fight for second place in the Island Division with Powell River and Alberni Valley, so they will be looking for a huge two points this weekend from the game with Coquitlam.

On Thursday, Jan. 29, the Grizzlies are asking fans to come dressed as their favourite super heroes (including real-life ones) as they celebrate “Heroes Night,” spotlighting members of the military and first responders such as firefighters and paramedics.

The Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy, 35 professional musicians, will play O Canada and perform at various points during the game. Members of the military can purchase tickets to the game for only $5 with valid military ID, and fans will have the opportunity to have photos taken with some real life professional super heroes in attendance.
