Grads and teachers both winners at hockey face-off

Peter Skene Ogden grads score big when they took on teachers

The grad hockey team from Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School may not have been winners at the annual faceoff with the teachers, but they definitely scored big by raising more than $2,000 at the event.

Both teams took to the ice on Feb. 16 at the South Cariboo Rec. Centre for a friendly game in front of a cheering crowd of about 350 people.

The teachers won 6-5, but the real goal was to raise money for dry grad celebrations.

Master of ceremonies Tom Bachynski kept the evening rolling with an entertaining commentary and parent Annie Horton, who was involved in co-ordinating the grad raffle, says even the Green and Blue Men showed up in their full body suits.

A paper airplane toss made more than $1,300 and the 50/50 draw, with a prize pot of $375 was won by James Ostrander and then he donated it back to the grads.

During the evening, a long awaited raffle draw for a Canucks game and hotel package was made. The winner was Barb Ohrling and winner of the second prize iPad 2 was Shane Jordaan. Delia Buckley won a barbecue and Clint Thompson was the winner of a Ducks Unlimited print.

The raffle raised $10,254 for the grads.

“We definitely hit our goal of reaching for the stars with the game and raffle. We are more than pleased,” says Horton.
