Fusion get hot at right time

After losing four of first five games, Langley's Fraser Valley Fusion win four straight to take title at Pride & Power tournament

It is not how you start but how you finish.

That was definitely true for the Fraser Valley Fusion 2001A girls rep fastball team.

The Fusion struggled out of the gate, winning just one out of their five round-robin games.

But once the playoff round started, there was no beating the Fusion as they won four straight games to win gold at the Pride & Power tournament over the May long weekend in South Surrey.

In the championship final, Fraser Valley was powered by a Sydney Wood home run — which cleared the fence — and the pitching of Kyra Wiens in a 7-6 win over the Victoria Devils 2000A.

The Fusion also defeated the Surrey Storm 2001A — the defending national champions — 7-3 in the semifinals.
