Competitors in the 2018 Elkford Triathlon will enjoy a change of scenery when the annual event returns this weekend.

This year’s event will feature a new running route incorporating recently finished District trails and has been rebranded as a race series in combination with the Wapiti Trail Run in the fall.

More than 100 adults and children are expected to take part in the triathlon on Sunday, June 3, with registration closing on May 10.

People can enter as individuals or a team in the sprint triathlon, which is promoted as an easy way to start the competitive racing season.

Organizer Brad Cromey said the event had been running “since before gel filled shoes and carbon fibre bicycles” and steadily growing over the years.

Starting at 8.30 a.m., the adult event consists of a 20km bike ride, 5km run and 750m swim.

The kids event starts at 11 a.m. and consists of a 5km bike ride, 2.5km run and either a 200m or 400m swim.

Volunteers are needed to help run the triathlon.

“We have a large array of volunteer requirement and can always use more great support and smiling faces,” said Cromey.

Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Brad Cromey at 250-425-5927.
