The Elk Valley Dolphins Swim Club attended two swim meets in Alberta over the weekend, one in Calgary and another in Edmonton.
Head coach Aidan Chudleigh took twelve senior swimmers to the Blue Bears meet in Edmonton.
“They all got a lot [of personal bests] and had a lot of fun which is what it’s all about,” said Chudleigh. “It’s a cumulation of all the hard work that they’re been doing for a year and a half.”
The crew won four gold medals, four silver and broke 10 team records in the events. The female senior swimmers team ranked third out of the 11 teams at the competition.
The junior and intermediate swimmers, led by coach Tara Beck took to the pool in Calgary for the Winter Cup meet.
The team brought home one gold, one silver and one bronze medal.
The team will take 33 members to Okotoks for the Black and Blue swim meet this weekend, which is the largest number they have taken on the road yet.
“It’s quite a substantial amount of kids for a small town,” said the coach, noting that more athletes from the team have qualified for Provincials this year than last.
“Last year we had one go to the highest level of provincials,” he said. “This year we have five.”
The club hopes to send a swimmer to Nationals this year, and potentially compete in the BC Summer games.
