The weather was cold and rainy, and the trails were treacherously muddy and slick.
Despite the trying conditions, there were smiles all around from the more than 60 cyclists that took part in the fourth Shuswap Cross Cyclocross event at Klahani Park on Sunday.
Racers ranged in age from two to 60 and races featured kids, recreational cyclists and the elite men and women.
The event was the last of the season in the BC Interior Cyclocross Race Series.
In the event’s fourth year, the track was revamped and featured more obstacles, and technical riding sections.
The race itself consists of many laps of a short course featuring wooded trails, grass, steep hills, pavement, and obstacles which require the rider to quickly dismount and carry the bike while navigating the obstruction and remount.
In the U13 division, Jacob Hepburn, Ella Mills and Marika Meerza finished in second to fourth, while Ian Van Bergeyk was seventh and Erika Peasgood finished eighth.
Salmon Arm riders swept the podium in the U15 race, which included Aidan Hepburn, Ben Van Bergeyk and Konrad Van Varsveld.
In the men’s novice division, Keith Hepburn and Dan Holmes finished in first and second respectively.
