Mission goalie suiting up for Team BC at hockey event

A Mission goalie is capping off his 2016-17 hockey season on a high note.

Mission Minor Hockey Association product Chad Cromar is heading to Vancouver Island as part of Team BC at the 2017 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships.

The event kicked off on Monday and runs until Saturday, with over 450 players, coaches and staff from clubs from all over the country battling it out in Cowichan.

Cromar and Team BC battled Eastern Door and North on Monday, Ontario on Tuesday and the Atlantic team on Tuesday. The playoffs then kicked off on Wednesday. Team BC are the defending champions at the event, going undefeated at last year’s championship in Ontario.

The tournament is a nice final trip between the pipes for Cromar in 2016-17. The 16-year-old appeared in 16 regular-season games and one playoff match for the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds of the B.C. Major Midget Hockey League this season, picking up six wins. He also suited up twice for the Langley Rivermen of the B.C. Hockey League, earning one win.

The strong year comes off an equally excellent 2015-16 season, which saw Cromar help the Mission Secondary Roadrunners win the B.C. High School Hockey League Tier 2 championships, and lead the Mission Stars Midget A1 hockey team to the provincials.
