Cowichan Capitals lose to division leaders

Leading after two periods, Caps fall to Grizzlies 5-3

Despite carrying a two-goal lead into the third period, the Cowichan Valley Capitals ended up on the wrong side of a 5-3 final score in their B.C. Hockey League game against the Victoria Grizzlies on Friday night.

The Caps led 3-1 with 20 minutes left to play, but the Grizzlies tied the game on a pair of powerplay goals, went ahead on an even-strength marker, and added an empty-netter for good measure.

The Grizzlies opened the scoring just two minutes and nine seconds into the game, but rookie Luc Wilson made it a tie before the first period was over, and Niko Esposito-Selivanov and Paul Selleck had second-period goals.

The Caps outshot the Grizzlies 49-32, but Victoria netminder Kyle Dumba made 46 saves to Blake Wood’s 28.

The Caps will play at home on Saturday, hosting the Alberni Valley Bulldogs at 6 p.m.
