Dust off the racquet, tie up your shoes and step onto the court.
The Courtenay Badminton Club extends an invitation to adult players — with some experience — to drop in for a free session at école Au-coeur-de-l’île in Comox, where the club meets twice a week. Feathered shuttles are used and four courts are available.
“This is a long-established club,” said Daryl Bissell, who is in his 43rd consecutive year as a member. “It’s a friendly group. We’re easy to get along with.”
The present group of players range in age from 20-something to upwards of 70.
If doubtful about playing ability, or if you’re feeling rusty, there are a number of regular members who can provide some teaching assistance.
“It’s the life sport,” said club co-ordinator Frank Wouterlood. “It’s non-threatening. It’s a social game. You come with a smile on your face, and you leave with a smile on your face.”
The club meets Mondays and Thursdays from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the school, located at 566 Linshart Rd. near the Comox Firehall.
After the first free session, the drop-in charge is six dollars. Or members have an option of paying an annual fee of $160, or $110 for a half-year.
