Comox Valley United soccer team loses Jackson Cup quarter-final

The Comox Valley United men's soccer team is out of contention for the Jackson Cup. The team lost 6-1 to the first division Lakehill FC in the quarter-final round of cup play, Saturday in Victoria.

The Comox Valley United men’s soccer team is out of contention for the Jackson Cup. The team lost 6-1 to the first division Lakehill FC in the quarter-final round of cup play, Saturday in Victoria.

The Jackson Cup is the Vancouver Island soccer championship for all divisions. Lakehill finished atop the first division standings this season in the Vancouver Island Soccer League. With one game remaining in its season, CVU has clinched the second division title.

Josh Fauchon scored the lone goal for CVU in Saturday’s game.

In their Feb. 22 cup opener in Victoria, Comox Valley beat first division Gorge FC 1-0. Angus Hayman scored for United in the 56th minute.

“We were kept in the game by a strong defensive performance from the team, and stellar goalkeeping from the game MVP Tyler Griffith,” player/coach Graeme McNeill said of the win over Gorge.

CVU concludes the season Saturday, March 7 at home against Lakehill’s second division team. Kickoff is 6 p.m. at the Vanier turf.
