Team Richards of the Comox Valley has qualified for the B.C. junior curling championships.

Skip Gracelyn Richards, third Keelie Duncan, second Bryn Woloshyn and lead Kate Eisner (who plays out of the Port Moody Curling Club) were the B event qualifiers at the Island playdowns last weekend at the Kerry Park Curling Club. Team Douglas from Gibsons/Duncan/Victoria won the A event.

Regional playdowns were also held in other parts of B.C. last weekend. Fifteen teams were vying for six provincial berths.

Eight teams will compete at the 2020 B.C. Junior Curling Championships, Dec. 28-Jan. 2 in Victoria. The top team will represent B.C. at the national championships, Jan. 18-26 in Langley.

Team Richards placed second this season on the BC Junior Curling Tour. The local members competed at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer. The team had previously qualified for U18 provincials, but this was their first crack at qualifying for the junior (U21) championships.

Next up for the local side is a U18 open event in Kamloops.
