The Cloverdale Paint Black Panthers mauled the Morgans Glass Mavericks 9-4 in Mosquito playoff baseball Friday night at Lakeview Park.

The Black Panthers used a strong team effort with great defensive plays to limit the Mavericks runs with the game ending on a great play by Owen Both, who picked up a sharp ground ball and beat the runner to his bag for the final out.

The Black Panthers took the lead in the third inning and then their pitching staff kept the Mavericks to one run the rest of the night.

The Black Panther staff was led by Chayse Brumpton, who pitched two innings, allowing one run and striking out three.

Ben Thompson  struck out the side in the fourth and Reece Holmes fanned five over the last two innings,  keeping the Mavericks to one run.

The Mavericks got good pitching from brothers Bryden and Kaleb Murray, who each struck out five over two innings.

Dylan McGee went 2-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run to spark the Mavs, while Ben Bradford went 2-for-3 with two RBI and J’lee Howitt had one hit and one run.

Holmes went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI for the Panthers, while Thompson was 2-for-3 with a triple, walk and three runs.

Evan Kashuba supplied three hits, one walk and one run in three at bats, while Brumpton delivered two hits, one run and one ribbie.

Meanwhile, Vernon’s Jake Holland, of the West Kelowna Midget Diamondbacks, will play in B.C. Baseball’s U18 College Prep League/Midget AAA All-Star showcas this weekend at Latrace Field in Richmond.

Holland is a catcher.
