Chilliwack swimmer stars at U.S. Paralympic nationals

Caden Hyde won a pair of individual gold medals at the swim meet in Tucson, Arizona.

Chilliwack’s Caden Hyde won double gold at the U.S. Paralympics Swimming Para National Championships, which were held Dec. 14-16 in Tucson, Arizona.

The 15 year old competed in seven events.

His first triumph came in the men’s 100m breaststroke where the Chilliwack Spartan athlete posted a preliminary time of 2:31.93 and a finals time of 2:31.31.

His second win came in the 100m backstroke where his finals time of 1:25.30 was nearly three seconds faster than the runner-up.

Hyde finished second in the 100m breaststroke, 50m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 200m individual medley.

He placed fourth in the finals of the 100m freestyle.

Hyde was part of the silver medal winning Canadian entry in the men’s 400m freestyle relay.
