Chilliwack Spartans star at Tier-II B.C. Championships

Sixteen local swimmers traveled to Kamloops to compete in a field of 420-plus.

The Chilliwack Spartans had 16 swimmers in the field at the B.C. Tier-2 Provincial Championships, which were held Mar. 2-4 in Kamloops.

The massive meet hosted 420 of the top swimmers from across the province, and the Spartans came home with three individual and two relay medals.

Anna Dumont-Belanger led the way, grabbing gold in the 15-18 year old girls’ division.

Dumont-Belanger took top spot in the 200 metre freestyle and finished sixth in the 200m backstroke.

Ryan Han produced a silver medal swim in the 15-and-under boys’ division.

Han finished second in the 100m breaststroke and fourth in the 200m breaststroke. Teammate Logan Sparks had a busy schedule. He finished fourth in the 200 and 400m freestyles, fifth in the 200m backstroke, sixth in the 100m fly and seventh in the 100m backstroke and 200m individual medley.

This age group also saw two Spartan relay teams win silver medals, in the 4x50m freestyle and medley races.

In the 14-and-under girls’ division, Tobyn Smith captured bronze in the 400m freestyle. She finished fourth in the 100m backstroke, fifth in the 100m fly and 400m individual medley and sixth in the 200m freestyle and 200m IM.

Emily De Jager swam to seventh in the 800m freestyle.
