Chilliwack hosts WinterSkate competition at Prospera Centre

Chilliwack's Cheam Skating Club has 16 athletes in a field of 788 competing over three days.

Chilliwack’s Cheam Skating Club hosts the WinterSkate competition this weekend at Prospera Centre.

The annual event draws 788 skaters this year from across B.C. and the Yukon.

Sixteen locals are competing.

Natasha Unruh and Olivia Morgan hit the ice Friday morning, with both girls competing in the Star 5 13-and-over group. Cate Ngieng and Kaira Vargas were due to compete in the afternoon in the Star 4 13-and-over division.

Audrey Allister is on the schedule for 6 p.m. tonight, skating on the secondary rink in the Star 3 group.

Seven Cheam athletes are in action Saturday.

Tatyana Martz draws the earliest start time, skating at 10:15 a.m. in pre-introductory interpretive. Celina Peters tackles the gold free skate at 11:55 a.m. followed by Madison Metcalfe in gold interpretive at 12:50 p.m.

Ava Galasso, Gemma Hanninen, Chantelle Durand and Keneisha Wilson all compete in the Star 1 division.

Galasso and Hanninen skate at 2 p.m., followed by Durand at 3 p.m. and Wilson at 4:15 p.m., all on the secondary rink.

Georgianna Enns, Kirsten Murrin, Chloe Ford and Alina Reid skate in the Star 2 competition on Sunday.

Enns is on at 11:40 a.m. followed by Murrin at noon and Ford/Reid at 1:15 p.m.

The final Cheam skater appears at 1:55 p.m. on the primary rink as Ava Hanninen skates in the Star 5 under-13 division.
