Home ice has meant absolutely nothing in the B.C. Hockey League’s double round robin series to determine the Fred Page Cup finalists.
Jordan Kawaguchi’s goal 59 seconds into overtime Wednesday secured a 4-3 victory for the Chilliwack Chiefs in West Kelowna against the Warriors.
Through five games in the double round robin, the road team has won all five.
The last regularly scheduled game of the double-round-robin is tonight when West Kelowna visits the Nanaimo Clippers.
Should Nanaimo win, they would advance to the best-of-seven final as the top seed while Chilliwack and West Kelowna would keep playing games until one of them also achieves a third win. Should West Kelowna win Friday, all teams would be 2-2. In that event, a Page playoff format would be used.
Vernon’s Spencer Hewson has a goal and two assists in 12 playoff games for Nanaimo.
In the Western Hockey League, the Kelowna Rockets and Victoria Royals began their second-round Western Conference best-of-seven series Thursday in the provincial capital.
Games 3 and 4 go Tuesday and Thursday at Prospera Place.
Vernon’s Cole Sanford and the Regina Pats visit the Red Deer Rebels in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference series Saturday.
Sanford had three goals and five assists as the seventh-seeded Pats upset the second-ranked Lethbridge Hurricanes in five games in round one of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
