The arenas in the multiplex are quiet now but the Alberni Valley Bulldogs are busy off the ice.
The Bulldogs announced they have acquired the playing rights to six-foot three 179 pound defenseman Darian Henry from the Drumheller Dragons in the Alberta Junior Hockey League in exchange for the playing rights of Justin Morello.
The Bulldog forward played 30 games and scored 28 points last season.
Henry started the 2011/12 campaign with the Everett Silvertips in the WHL after being selected by the ‘Tips in the seventh round of the 2009 WHL bantam draft.
Henry registered only one assist in 16 games in Everett before being reassigned to Drumheller, where he notched one goal, two assists and 62 penalty minutes in 16 games.
“Given the opportunity to acquire Darian Henry, we knew that we had to give up some talent to get his talent,” said Bulldogs head coach Kevin Willison.
Henry has Western Hockey League experience and is a stay-at-home defenseman making him a coveted find. “We are always looking to upgrade our defensive core, either immediately or for the near future.”
Henry won’t be suiting up for the Bulldogs right away though. Instead, he will start the season with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League after the club recently acquired his rights from Everett.
